Sometimes the different tastes from good food doesn’t really work on the palate.
The savory pie (Rabbit) at Stolle’s was nothing short of amazing. Lean rabbit meat flavored with dill, sour cream, onion and mushroom, baked in a Easter-egg-like golden crust. The wondrous flavors of the forest invited me to linger around some more.
However, the special Stolle’s dessert special, the chocolate-glazed poppy-seed bun, was…um…disappointing. If you REALLY LOVE poppy seeds, then it would have worked out. The only chocolate element was the glaze, and it was incredibly sticky, in a bad way. The bun was only really flavored by the poppy seeds, which can trick the mind in expecting a really sweet taste, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. Maybe a bit of chocolate baked INSIDE the bun would have been a bit of improvement….
The Green Giant smoothie (coconut water, spinach, kale, coconut meat, date, lemon, spirulina, cacao, sea salt and cayenne) from Juice Press was, in a word, weird. Yes, it’s a smoothie, so it’s supposed to be extremely thick. However, with the texture and the odd savory/sweet farm goodness (maybe a farm in Hawaii, due to the coconut), I would have liked the Green Giant better if it had the thick smoothie. I only drank three sips before giving it up…
Two strikes, but the fortunately the Rabbit did win the race, all by his lonesome self….
