An oldie but a goodie: Don Tapas @ Falchi’s, 31-00 47th Ave., Long Island City, Queens 2/2/17

I’ve been hearing a few opposing reports from 3 different groundhogs today. Should we cater naturally to Punxsutawney Phil’s annual prediction, that Winter will stick around a little longer, or listen to one that resides in Staten Island (Staten Island Chuck) or the other in Nova Scotia (Shubenacadie Sam), who both predicted an early Spring?

Regardless to any rodent you care to listen to, soup is always a good meal in both winter and spring months.

Today’s soup special at Don Tapas is Chicken Tortilla. It’s an oldie but a goodie: chicken in a tomato broth, heavily-flavored with green chiles, onions, garlic, corn, diced tomatoes, carrots, cilantro, oregano, etc., thickened with tortilla dust. The taste comforts me, as if I was still living at home in the Southwest.

(I predict there will be a lot more soup days (saving money for later), whether winter sticks around or takes a hike…)

Enjoy!
