As an native Oklahoman, I am sad today: it’s the 22nd anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing. I try out the usual distractions. Music is a must, some Kate Bush and Talking Heads (“Once in a lifetime”), and maybe some down-home eats.
Or, maybe not…my God, what have [they] done?
Don Tapas is a great place, but they can’t make a Sloppy Joe I can relate to. First, they serve it with Swiss cheese. That’s a big no no. Second, the absence of tomato sauce is pretty disturbing. Finally, the sweetness of the ground meat (with red and green peppers and onions), was rather strange.
The accompaniments are pretty good; the The Deep River potato chips were dusted with olive oil and rosemary (delish), and the Pellegrino sparkling water was flavored with pomegranate and orange juices. Very refreshing.
There are days one will be sad, no matter what. Now, with the welcome distraction of ’80s rock jamming in my headphones, like Duran Duran, I can reflect my feelings “strung out the line, on this golden rhyme”, while I try to forget the weird taste of meat in my mouth.
Wow, a lot of things to ponder, indeed. To those still affected by the OKC bombings, our hearts are with you today.
Enjoy!
